rattle and roll

a rattle in my light fixture
driving me crazy
technology presents ways to cover the rattle

Internet music is my savior. A Nick Lowe concert courtesy of NPR, listening to my favorite New Jersey radio station online while I work and the freebie songs on The Jellydots myspace page (kids' music that won't annoy the parents, I highly recommend their first album).
But then, an idea. Sometimes simple is best.
Some cardboard wedged into the light fixture and life is good again.

photo fun tools

Yes, I'm doing things out of order. I didn't get anywhere with montagr but I found this mosaic tool: mozaiq.org which was sort of fun. The photo I used may not have been the best for the application but oh well, stand back from the computer to see it better. It remakes your photo out of lots and lots of tiny photos and then you can click anywhere on the photo to see the component photos. Above is the mosaiq that I made. You have to go to the photo on mozaiq to see the component images, click on the photo to get there.

bloglines continued

Here is a link to the list of feeds I created on bloglines.

This was a tedious exercise. I agree with some other people that I prefer to read individual pages instead of the fairly boring presentation that bloglines has. I did like subscribing to others' flickr pages (since it's more visual and less text). I like the word of the day feed. I'm definitely not sold on RSS. I have so little time as it is and would rather be reading, knitting, playing with a certain two-year-old I know and walking through all those lovely leaves outside.

Regarding my last post, it was my home computer - won't cooperate with bloglines. Also, the apple pie was taken to my husband's work before I had a chance to get a slice. An empty pie plate came home, oh well. So I made applesauce last night which I think I'll use in apple cake this weekend.

i.a.a.s.a.i.c.t.b.

stands for "it ain't as simple as it claims to be."
Thing 8 - RSS. partway through bloglines tutorial, subscribed to some feeds, cannot for the life of me find the "my feeds" tab on the left hand side. I see a "FEED" tab and it seems to think that it's in "my feeds" but the feeds I subscribed to don't show up. So I tried to resubscribe to one of them and it said I already subscribed to that blog. This is what I see on the left hand side:

Maybe it's the fault of my ancient computer again. I'll try it at work tomorrow. Hope I'm not the only one who finds this difficult. On another, sweeter note - my husband put an apple pie in the oven about 1/2 hour ago and the house smells of warm apples, cinnamon and dough. mmmmmmm. apple pie for breakfast tomorrow.

"blog this" through flickr

Okay, got the "blog this" feature figured out. Here is a photo of me and my little guy at upper Manito playground - one of the playgrounds that I consider good for really little ones, some of the playgrounds around town are full of much too high play equipment and bigger kids. I like the upper Manito area because it has toddler play equipment and some for kids a little bit bigger. Week three assignment and a playground review as well. :)

about technology

Love it. Hate it. Can't remember all my "clever" passwords, spent my alotted 15 minutes resetting my password instead of posting a picture from Flickr to my blog. Couldn't find the "Blog This" button (finally did after clicking the photo and now photo posted). It was easy once I finally figured it out. -- Except when I edited my post through Blogger the photo I uploaded disappeared and so I ended up using Bloggers "Add Image" feature which seemed much easier than Flickr in the long run. ugh.

7 1/2 habits of learning

I do like to learn new things, though, as I said above, if I just had the time...
So if I had to choose one learning habit I'm good at I'd say "viewing problems as challenges" (especially since other people in my house sometimes get stuck on the problems so it gives me an opportunity to shine a little). I also do "begin with the end in mind" though sometimes I can see the end and I can see the beginning but the path between the two is a little murky (I'm thinking of home-improvement tasks here). The one learning habit I have trouble with, I'm embarassed to admit, "play" - again if I just had the time. Though lately I do play quite a bit of Legos and imaginary cooking and imaginary putting the stuffed animals to sleep - thanks to my super-sweet 2 year old. Hurray for little ones showing us things we sometimes think we don't have time for!

is it live?

First thing I know for sure (though I've known this for a while) is that my home computer is pathetic and is practically just an energy-sucking blob on my kitchen counter. I'll be amazed if this attempt at a blog even shows up since I couldn't get it going in Safari and so I am in IE 5.2 for MAC and I can't see any of the submit buttons. I have to just float the cursor around the page and guess at the most likely spot for a button. Seems like I'm always saying, "as soon as I have the time..." and I'll say it again now - as soon as I have the time I will buy a new computer. (any recommendations are welcome).
